FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers to the 23 questions New Zealand business owners ask us most about lines of credit, unsecured working capital, property-secured loans and what happens after you enquire.
Getting started
What is Capital On Call?
Capital On Call helps New Zealand businesses arrange lines of credit, unsecured working capital and property-secured loans through a panel of lending partners, with a focus on businesses whose cash flow is seasonal or uneven.
Are you a bank?
No. We work with lending partners to find the option that suits each business. That lets us match businesses to lenders who understand seasonal and lumpy cash flow.
What types of business can apply?
Sole traders, companies, partnerships and trusts can all apply, as long as the funding is for business purposes. We don't arrange personal or consumer lending.
Which parts of New Zealand do you cover?
All of New Zealand — from Northland to Southland, including regional and rural businesses.
Does it cost anything to enquire?
No. The enquiry is free, takes about 60 seconds, and doesn't affect your credit score.
Lines of credit and unsecured funding
How does a business line of credit work?
You're approved for a limit. You draw what you need, repay when cash comes in, and the repaid amount becomes available to draw again — without reapplying.
How long do I need to have been trading?
Lines of credit and unsecured options are usually for businesses trading six months or more, because the assessment relies on bank statement history.
How is the amount decided?
For unsecured funding, it's based mainly on your turnover and what your business bank statements show about regular income, spending and existing commitments.
Can I get unsecured funding with weaker credit?
Weaker credit is considered. Lenders look at the whole picture, including how the business trades today, rather than declining automatically.
How fast are decisions?
Unsecured decisions are sometimes made the same day once the lender has your bank statements and the details it needs.
Can I use a line of credit for a seasonal business?
Yes — it's one of the best uses. Draw in the quiet months and repay in the busy ones. We explain your season to the lender so the pattern is understood.
Property-secured funding
How much can I borrow against property?
Property-secured business loans range from $20,000 to $1m, secured on New Zealand property you or a supporting party already own.
What property can be used?
A home, rental or investment property, commercial property or land in New Zealand. The loan can be a first or second mortgage, even if there's already a mortgage on the property.
Do I need financial statements or tax returns?
Not for the initial assessment of a property-secured loan. The lender starts with the property, the purpose and how the loan will be repaid.
Can bad credit or arrears be considered?
Yes. Bad credit, defaults and arrears are considered case by case for property-secured loans.
Can a property-secured loan pay off IRD debt?
Yes. IRD debt can be refinanced or paid out as part of a property-secured business loan.
How quickly can property-secured funds be available?
In some cases, funding is possible within 24 hours of approval.
Is a property-secured loan a line of credit?
No. It's a lump sum for a short to medium term. If you want to draw and redraw, a line of credit is the right tool, and many businesses use both.
Cost and next steps
What are your interest rates?
We don't publish rates. Every facility is priced on the individual business's circumstances, and we look for the sharpest option available for your situation. You'll see the full cost before you commit.
Will enquiring affect my credit score?
No. The 60-second enquiry doesn't affect your credit score.
What happens after I enquire?
A lending specialist calls you back to understand your business and what you need, explains the options that fit, and tells you what information is required.
Am I obliged to go ahead?
No. The enquiry starts a conversation. Nothing proceeds unless you choose to after seeing the options and full terms.
Can I talk to someone before enquiring online?
Yes. Call us on 09 875 4577.
Question not answered here?
Call 09 875 4577 or start the 60-second enquiry and a lending specialist will talk it through with you.
